Highcliffe Charity Players donate £1,000 to Rainbow Pre School

Highcliffe Charity Players (HCP) have donated £1,000 to help create a new play area at the Rainbow Pre School and Nursery in Lymington Road, Highcliffe.

The playground was designed and built by Charity Player member Martin Mansfield of Outdoor Designs who commented: "Our aim was to create a safe and eco-friendly outdoor area for 2-4 year olds to play in. Now that is it completed we shall be regularly maintaining the grassy area free of charge."

The £1,000 cheque was presented at the opening of the new playground by HCP Chairman Tracey Barrington to Jacqui Waddock, Chairperson of Rainbow Pre-School.

Said Jacqui: "We've been waiting for a long time for something like this - it was just a muddy grassless area before. When the children came back after half-term, they couldn't wait to get on there and start playing."

Said Tracey: "It is really satisfying to see HCP's fundraising efforts going to such a worthy community project. We aim to raise money for local charities and causes in every performance we do, and small schools such as this can often get overlooked. It's lovely to see the end result looking so good, especially as we may have some of our future audiences right here."

Rainbow Pre School has been running for 20 years to provide quality pre school education for children from the local community. A non-profit making organisation, run by a parent committee, Rainbow relies on donations to help cover the costs of replacing expensive items or purchasing new equipment.

As well as the play area being built and designed by Outdoor Designs, the Wendy house was donated by Highcliffe-based company Hoburne Limited, Travis Perkins donated the use of free hire tools and Eco-Compost provided the wood chip and turf.

Highcliffe Charity Players Make £1,000 Donation in 2007

The Highcliffe Charity Players have made a donation of £1,000 to Highcliffe Parish Church Council for renovation works at St Mark's Church Hall, Hinton Wood Avenue - money raised through last year's pantomime, "Cinderella".

The cheque was presented at St Mark's Hall by HCP Chairman Matthew Smith (pictured left) to the Vicar of St Mark's, The Rev. Garry Taylor, during a break in rehearsals for "Dick Whittington", which the Players will be performing at the Regent Centre, Christchurch, from 20th - 27th January 2007.

Said Matthew: "It is particularly fitting for HCP to make a donation towards necessary refurbishment at St Mark's as this is the hall where the Players first began performing pantomime more than 30 years ago. We still use it as a much-loved rehearsal space and as the venue for our summer revues."

CHARITY PLAYERS DONATE £4,000

TThe Highcliffe Charity Players have donated £3,500 to local causes, the profits from their award-winning pantomime 'Aladdin" - a sell-out at the Regent Centre, Christchurch, in January.

£1,000 was presented to Dr. Richard Osborne, Consultant in Medical Oncology at the Dorset Cancer Centre at Poole Hospital. Expressing his grateful thanks, Dr. Osborne explained: "The Medical Oncology Research Fund was established in 1995 to provide resources for research at the Centre - particularly in the field of ovarian cancer. The Fund also contributes significantly to the quality of cancer care available to the people of Dorset and has enabled the purchase of essential equipment."

£1,000 was collected by Mrs Karen Boynton, Head Teacher at St. Mark's Infant School, Highcliffe, and Louise Vallee, Coordinator of the School's fundraising group, S.M.I.L.E. (St. Mark's Infants Leisure & Entertainment). "Our current project," said Mrs Boynton, "is to improve the drama equipment in our Main Hall, so the money will go towards purchasing a new sound system, video player and staging. Your donation means we can complete this project next term, which is fantastic!"

£1,000 was collected by Graham Budd, Cub Scout Leader of The Highcliffe Scout Group, which meet at the Scout Hut on Chewton Common. "We are delighted to receive this donation," said Graham. "It is so good to see the village community working together. We will divide the money amongst the Beaver (6-8 year olds), Cub (8-10 year olds) and Scout (10-14 year olds) sections, to purchase new resources and equipment to support their training programmes."

£500 has already been given to Steve Dayman of The Spencer Dayman Meningitis Laboratories while he was walking through Highcliffe on the last day of a 470 mile Sponsored Walk from Morpeth, Northumberland, to Bournemouth, to raise funds for their vital work into the prevention and treatment of meningitis and septicaemia.

The cheques were presented by Charity Players Chairman, Matthew Smith, who said: "Behind the fun and glamour of our productions there is a serious endeavour - for more than 30 years the profits from our shows have been given to worthy causes. I am particularly delighted that we have been able to make substantial donations this year to local causes, some of them with personal links to our members. A further £500 will be donated to a sponsored cycle ride next Spring, when the charities to benefit include The Alzheimer's Society and The Southampton Hospital Urology Unit."
